Earl by professorhazard Earl by professorhazard
Finally played through and beat the original ToeJam & Earl on the Wii's Virtual Console. Fizz Man had shown me once before how best to play and beat it, but that was many years ago.

Earl here is doing a funky little walk, twisting each foot as he steps in a fairly funky manner. He is also enjoying a hot dog, which you may recognize from the cover of the first TJ&E game.

I added in a few accents to his outfit from the third game, to give him a little more funk.

This is awesome, my friend and I would play the second one on my genesis all the time, but I lost the passwords and we never had the time to play through the whole thing. I need to try the first one. What Fun!

Get a Belt, Ea... Oh.

I had this on my desktop for two months I loved it so much. I never told you because, why would I have to?

It also rubs like sandpaper on my heart in reminder of super times at Haz-Con-Oh-Negative Two 'stravaganza.

You realize the first game had two-player simultaneous play too, right? Complete with split-screen?

You may be a bastard, Prof, but you're a damn skilled one. Love the celshade effect.

A very good job on a very worthwhile subject.

Is there a particular reason I'm a bastard, or is it just because my father abandoned me as a child?

There are a lot of reasons. Sorry to hear about your father, though. I guess.

...or not. You *are* a bastard, after all.

Nah, if you have a poke around, you'll know how I know you're a bastard. No big, really, lots of people are.

I'd "have a poke around", as you say, but if I gave every Internet drama queen that pretended to know anything about me the time of day, I wouldn't have any time to improve my golf swing, now would I.

Golf is overrated, Praf. Except, maybe, as a sleep aid. Nah, it's me- yanno, 'Saline Starblade' or whatever it was you usedta call.

Incidentally, tell Chimpo that I've got his hat, will you?

That's an amazing amount of detail. Most PS artists would assume you used a special brush for the grass, but you did NOT - you drew each blade by hand. I spy at least two shades of grass, too.

There are three shades of grass blades, and an underlying fourth color of green for the ground. Thanks for championing my extremely time-consuming style!

I was never able to beat it as a kid, maybe one day I'll do the cool thing and play it again.

I like the beanie, but like Replay I miss his bermuda shorts. I'm also more of a Toejam man myself.

Way to delete my comment, DeviantArt.

I said how you captured the funky yet eerie ambience of the floating space islands well, and that the outift looks good but I mourn the loss of Earl's bermuda shorts.

Only more poetically.

By the way, I have a challenge for you: create a picture to go to either side of this picture in which ToeJam is the focal point, and make the two match up when held next to each other, i.e. the paths lead into each other.

Take it or leave it!

Funny Story: I was thinking today how I would quite like to draw a Toejam picture to accompany this one.

It may take a short while though: you know us artists!

I didn't remember either, I was just reading the comments on this while thinking about sharing it as part of the Kickstarter. I didn't remember bringing it up year after year. Figured it was due for a revival.

Yeah, I was disappointed when I never leveled up past Funk Lord. Just to make sure (and get as many points as possible) I sat and opened all my presents before getting the last rocket piece. Unfortunately, I blindly opened rocket skates, and nearly rocketed off the level!
