Snipe Crashers - Professor Hazard
October 2008
Wacom Intuos 9x12
TOTAL TIME: ~2 hours

I lost the last part of the video recording of this picture; it was only the shading, but I'm still a mite peeved.

~ClickOutMets commissioned me to draw four Snipe Hunters in the style of Castle Crashers. As always, I started with myself. It's less about narcissism and more about using myself as a lab rat. I am the design I am most familiar with, so it is a good launching point for further pictures.

Emulating Dan Paladin's style has been a remarkable experience for me. Everything that he seemingly "loses" with his crude, simple art style is made up for copiously in the amount of freedom you gain in the picture. It is going to be difficult for me to not draw like this forever. On the other hand, I think I have learned something important from him, which may become part of my drawing language from now on.

In turning Professor Hazard into a Castle Crasher, many of his modern accoutrements were medievalized. For a shield, he sports a regular Castle Crashers shield, adorned with the Hazard Laboratories University of Cryptozoology seal. His weapon is still a boxing glove gun, which isn't really out of place in the cartoonish world of Castle Crashers, where weapons such as fish and large chickens are used, alongside carrots and ray guns. His usual Hazard Labshirt is turned into a simplified tabard. For an animal orb, MAX got spherical.

Overall, this picture was a pleasure to draw, and I am looking forward to the next three in the set: Sasha Fiero, Speed Lancer, and of course Mets.

Looks like you used the same style for that comic you just posted on your blog as well. I must say I like it. I find it way cuter than those "chibi" drawings you did a while back.

Yes, your dislike for those drawings is well-noted. The midget community burns a straw effigy of you on a yearly basis.

I have a holiday in my honor? I may as well retire because I just can't hope to top that.

You do if you buy a picture, or ingratiate yourself with Mets. He bought all four scheduled pics.

Oho, this is quite fine. I really like it. I'm kind of at a lose for the words that would compliment the piece beyond 'me liek it. it luk gud.'

Can't wait for the rest.

Oh man, I love this.
I have obviously never played Castle Crashers. I thought it was something from Newgrounds and wondered why I couldn't find it there but I have played a couple of the short spinoffs people have made.
The giant forehead look both cool and weird. Of course, while the Crashers wear helmets, other Dan Paladin characters also have large square heads.
I'm just sad I won't be in this collection, unless maybe I was the secret fifth Crasher from "Castle Crashing Professor Hazard's Beard."

I said the word "Crasher" too much in this comment. I think I need to lie down.

Don't worry, I said it too much in the description. We will both lay down.

At any rate, perhaps people will wish to purchase solo versions of these pieces after the set is complete. Perhaps you will be one of them!

Perhaps Mets will pay for it in lieu of ever finishing our damn Art Trade.
